Nike Daybreak - How it all began

On August 5, 1984, the first international marathon for women took place at the Olympic Games in Los Angeles. Fifty female athletes took part in the Olympic premiere in the Memorial Coliseum in this discipline, of which a total of 44 runners reached the finish line. Joan Benoit from the USA wrote already after 5km best time and did not give up the lead. With a 400m lead Benoit won this groundbreaking race and wrote history.

A new running shoe from Nike, the Nike Daybreak, has also contributed to this achievement. This running shoe was the first Nike shoe with straight lasts. Specially designed and developed for Benoit's athletic feet and at the highest level of technology at the time. The upper is made of nylon, the outsole with adapted flex grooves and a heel clip made of synthetic material which should slow down pronation.

In 2019, the Nike Daybreak, designed for long distance runners, was reborn and is enjoying great popularity due to its simple retro design. The different colorways are of course suitable for women but also for men and let the hearts of vintage lovers beat faster.
